Case studies: how taxi services run on UpTaxi

Three stories from services in different cities with different backgrounds: radios, in-house software, a foreign system with no support. Each had its own reason to switch, and each got its own result. All figures and quotes come from the service owners themselves.

Alyans 222-222, Belgorod

Owner: Dmitry Osadchy.

Starting point

The service started with radios and a paper notebook. It then moved to a simple first program, and later to a foreign system. That system had two problems: weak local support and no customization for the city’s specifics. The service’s requests went unanswered, while the market demanded new ways of working with customers.

What we did

We moved the service to UpTaxi and launched a “hybrid mode” for fare calculation: the customer gets the price upfront, calculated on the city’s road graph, and pays exactly that price, while the service can still use the taximeter where it makes sense. This was a new format for the city, previously offered mostly by ride-hailing aggregators.

Result

  • Customer base grew right after the hybrid mode launched.
  • Feature requests are handled directly with the developers, with no middlemen.

Quote

“It’s great that the team never stands still.”

— Dmitry Osadchy, Alyans 222-222, Belgorod

Sevtaxi, Sevastopol

Owner: Evgeny.

Starting point

Sevastopol is a market with several large chain services and strong seasonality: in summer, order volume is several times higher than in winter. The service ran on radios, which limited pickup speed and driver oversight. UpTaxi became Sevtaxi’s first software after radios.

What we did

The UpTaxi team approached the service with an offer. The owner checked the features against his list of requirements, and everything he was looking for was there. We prepared the server, loaded the city map, connected the phone system, installed the app for drivers and trained the dispatchers.

Result

  • Dispatchers got used to the new console in about 10 days.
  • The service was fully “on track” 1–1.5 months after launch.
  • The advertised features matched the real ones, with no modules “promised in the next version”.

Quote

“Everything that was promised is there and it works.”

— Evgeny, Sevtaxi, Sevastopol

7-40, Zaporozhye

Starting point

The service started on radios with its own software and a staff of more than 10 operators. Over the years it changed five automation systems: each one at some point stopped meeting the service’s needs — in features, stability or how quickly the developers responded to requests.

What we did

UpTaxi became the service’s fifth system. The switch followed the standard process: server in one day, database migration, phone system setup, operator training. The service sends feature requests directly to the developers through support, which is available 24/7.

Result

  • Open dialogue with the developers and support — exactly what the previous systems lacked.
  • Fast response to the service’s requests.

Quote

“We really value the open dialogue with the developers and support. The team responds quickly to our needs, fixes bugs and builds what we ask for.”

— Oleg Alexandrovich, owner and head of 7-40, Zaporozhye

What these cases have in common

  • None of the three started from scratch. Each came with experience — radios, in-house software or another system — so they had something to compare with.
  • The main selection criterion was not price, but whether the advertised features matched reality and whether the developers were willing to improve the system.
  • Switching takes weeks, not months: dispatchers learn the console in about 10 days.
